A few months ago I picked up Xerath and up to date I have 100 ranked games played on him. My winrate in midlane hovers around 56 %. However, on all of my other mains my winrate is way higher.
What I can tell, I almost always lose lane but come back in teamfights later on. I would be happy if you could give me some insight !

I guess just a bit of practice and a good team would do the trick. I mean, he can't carry the team alone unlike other champs like Xin Zhao and Yasuo. Even if some of the team would not be doing good, a good Xin Zhao and Yasuo can carry the whole team alone, maybe with a help of a tank too. As for Xerath, he does deal a good amount of damage but still need to team up with your team mates to win. I used to have the same problem with Malphite, but since he is a tank, I just need to buy some items as early as possible so I can roam around alone.

I do agree with Working Buck since i believe that in order for Xerath to have a significant impact on the game , his team should play around him and protect him as he is immobile and the only form of CC he has is his stun which is a skillshot. All in all i feel that Xerath is a pretty decent champion and he can definitely carry a team.

When playing Xerath, you want to be a mile behind your team which means you're even further from the enemy team. All your abilities are long ranged so you don't need to be close to do a lot of damage. The best thing to do is to slow the enemy with your 'w' and then use your 'q'. Save your stun for people that get too close or if you and your team mate are chasing.
