When Bethesda first released Elder Scrolls, I'm not sure that even they would imagine that the series was going to be as popular as it's become. At last count, figures show that over 40 million copies have been sold of the series to date, but what's next for the series?
Skyrim won game of the year and as been just as popular, if not more, than the other releases but is The Elder Scrolls coming to an end? With the future of gaming seeming to be all online, and The Elder Scrolls Online already proving popular, will Bethesda continue making games to add to the series or will it solely concentrate now on DLC?

The Future Of Elder Scrolls
That in itself can be dangerous, as if they know full well that the game will be a success no matter what, the temptation will be there to maybe not put as much effort into the game, and maybe that is what's happened recently. I'd like to see the Elder Scrolls continue into the future, but not if the standard is going to slip.
That said, Bethesda has been pretty constantly up and down, and the mixed success of Fallout 4 doesn't give me high hopes. We've also seen several entries in the open world genre that are at least adjacent to what Bethesda does - Metal Gear Solid V, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Horizon: Zero Dawn - that I hope they step up their game and bring us something excellent when TES6 comes around. The gameplay has always been second fiddle to the world design in Bethesda's games, and I think they finally have some competition on that front. Hopefully that will be a good thing for them.
